My Broken Hero

Come out on Friday to hear this cool Christian rock band from Port Alberni, B.C.! And the really cool thing about this band is that two of the members (Cody and Dustin Dame) are cousins of Carly and Hailey! Cody does bass and Dustin does the lead vocals. There are also four other band members in this rock group right now although one of them is only a temporary member.
My Broken Hero will be opening for Secret and Whisper which is another great rock band from Kelowna, B.C.
This will be at Hawrelak Park and we will leave the church at 6:30 PM and arrive back at the church at 10:30 PM.
It costs $10 altogether. This includes $5 for the ticket and $5 for the transportation cost.
Come out for an awesome evening of Christian rock music at Hawrelak Park!!!

By the way, did you know that West Edmonton Mall cost 1.2 billion dollars to build, and is the size of 104 Canadian football fields or 5.3 million square feet? It is the largest mall in North America and in the world it ranks the sixth largest. Up until 2004 it was the largest in the world. It is also larger than Vatican City in gross area. Another weird fact is that before 1998 the mall had more submarines than the Canadian Navy had!

So everyone that's going to YC should have got a sheet from Pastor Brad with the details about YC. But if you didn't get the sheet then I'll tell you the information here.
We are leaving the church half an hour before each day at YC starts. It will take us about 45 minutes to get back to the church after the end of the day at YC.
However, on Friday be at the church at 6:00 PM.
You have to buy your own lunch or bring a bag lunch. (It might be a better idea to bring a lunch since buying food there is expensive.)
As well, everyone has to attend all of the main sessions. You also can't leave the premises of Northlands during the weekend of YC.
My advice is to bring your own lunch, your YC money ($115 - the $20 deposit - fund-raising money), extra money for C.D.'s and T-Shirts (if you want to buy them) and definitely remember earplugs!)

GREAT EXPECTATIONS

Have you ever heard of the book Great Expectations by Charles Dickens? The story is divided into three sections with the expectations that the orphan Philip Pirrip (a.k.a. Pip) has about his life. Pip lives a normal existence with his sister and her husband Joe. He is an apprentice to Joe and strives to be a blacksmith. Gotta Get to School!

School. It seems like a pointless thing sometimes. Like when am I ever going to use Coordinate Geometry and things like the Equal Tangents theorem or the Perpendicular Bisector theorem in real life? I mean you gotta know the basics but what about all those complex boring things? It doesn't always seem like we're really going to need to use these things in real life to me, but who knows? Come out to hear about the subject everyone kinda wishes didn't exist but maybe from a different perspective. P.S. Remember to draw your entry for the T-shirt contest so you can hand it in on Friday.

Do you know what the largest secondary school in the world is (regarding population) ? Rizal High School in Caniogan, Pasig City, Manila wins hands down with 25 000 students a year! It is located in the Phillipines. I don't think I'd like to go there because I'd probably get lost among all the people!

OUTDOOR GLOW IN THE DARK GAMES

We'll be going either to the school park right by the church or we'll go to Laurier Park. This is from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Come for some an amazing fun time with all your friends from youth group!

Did you know how many glow in the dark things they have out there?
There's glow in the dark shirts, shoes, Litecubes (ice cubes that actually have an LED light inside), cups, suckers, ice cream cups, olive picks, cutlery, bubble bath, a toilet seat (really!) and even a glow in the dark car. Pretty crazy stuff!

The car above is a Toyota MRS and is actually airbrushed with a Terminator design. It'd be pretty cool to see that at night!

If you couldn't read the tiny yellow print at the bottom of the calender, or if you didn't see it all, or just didn't bother, I'll tell you what it says:
"If you can read this then you can read Revelations for the month, and you will know what we are talking about. The End Is Near!"
TEIN stands for The End Is Near. Revelations is really only 22 chapters long so you can read one chapter a day and you'll be done before the end of the month!

SNOW BALL FIGHT!!!

Bring it on!

We will be having an awesome time in the snow on Friday!

Imagine snow, snow, snow...

A snow man making competition, a HUGE snowball fight and more!

Bring lots of warm clothes, hats, mitts, etc.

Actually the largest snowman ever to be created so far (we could break the record although I really doubt it! :D) was made in 1999 in Maine and it was 113 feet, seven inches! How much did it weigh? Over 9 million pounds. Now that's one BIG snowman!

With six car tires as a mouth and two ten foot trees as arms I really doubt that we'll get even close to that on Friday! LOL :D

There is a youth service on Friday. It's from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

Have you ever heard of the sports chessboxing or korfball? These are actual sports! In chessboxing, just like its name, you have eleven alternating rounds of chess and boxing. Korfball is actually played in 50 different countries and it came from the Dutch. It's actually a team ball game and similar to basketball but the basket is a ring and it's higher with no backboard. You also use a soccer ball in this game and the teams are mixed-gender.

Footprints in the Sand
One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky. In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there were one set of footprints. This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints. On Friday we'll wrap up the topic we've been dealing with for this month. Most (or maybe all) of the end of Acts is about Paul. He's actually a pretty brave guy who's been through a lot of bad times. Did you know that he was shipwrecked at least once and suffered beatings and torture? He was one tough guy! So, I' ll see you all on Friday to hear the last episode.

This Friday will be the sequel to last week. We will be continuing to talk about Acts and all of the amazing things that happen in this book.
Have you read about Saul? He was the guy who was out to get all the believers and then he had an encounter with God that turned him into a major all-out Christian! Talk about the unexpected! (Read Acts 9)
And have you ever read about the time that Paul healed a cripple and the people (who were into Greek mythology) thought that Barnabas was Zeus and Paul was Hermes? The people were going to sacrifice a bull to Paul and Barnabas but they told the crowds that they had the wrong impression. It was God who has the power. Pretty good advice. (Read Acts 14)
So whatever else happens, we will all have an awesome time! See you there!

This week we will be learning about Acts. Have you ever read the book of Acts before? Basically, it's the thrilling sequel to the first four books of the New Testament and picks up right when Jesus is lifted up to heaven. It answers the question "What's next?". Jesus is up in heaven now so how can everyone continue being a Christian without their biggest leader, Jesus? And how is everyone else going to find out about God now? There's all kinds of different stories including the one about the first martyr and flames of fire from the Holy Spirit.

This is the time to catch up on everyone's summer and see everyone you haven't seen for two whole months! There will be food, and lots of exciting games (like Mission Impossible) at Laurier Park!!! We will all meet at church and then we will take the church van to our destination! It is from 7 PM to 10 PM.
Come for an awesome barbecue that will cheer you up because I bet no one is really that excited about going back to school!
(I totally thought summer went by waaaay too quickly!)

When: On July 25. We leave the church at 12 PM and will be back at the church at 8 PM.
Bring: A lunch (we will stop somewhere for supper) and $30. The money is to get into the water park. You also need $0.50 for each time you want to open your locker. Bring about $40 altogether and that will work fine!
Note: Let Pastor Brad know i you are going ahead of time. Also if you are going you need a permission slip with your parent's signature and phone number on it.

BIKE TRIP!!!
Where: This will be at the river valley and we will ride to Rundle Park on the east side of town by way of the River Valley trails.
Bring: Your bike, a helmet, and a backpack with water and a lunch.
When: we will leave church at 10 AM on July 11 and come back to the church at 5 PM.
MAKE SURE YOU BRING A HELMET (IT'S THE LAW!) AND MAKE SURE THAT YOUR BIKE WILL LAST THE WHOLE TRIP (I.E. IT WORKS WELL! :D)

Since we're talking about money...if you 're really bored, you can actually make a wallet out of duct tape!

I went on a duct tape website and found a picture of a guy named Kyle who made a rose out of duct tape. And this is no ordinary rose. It cost $172 and took 13 and a half hours to make, and used up 58 rolls of duct tape!
Because it is 7 and a half feet tall!!

Did you know that there is actually a tree called the money tree? The picture above is a money tree and it is formally known as pachira aquatica. It grows in the swamps of Central and South America and no, money does not grow on it!!!

Well, I am pretty sure everyone had an AWESOME time at YC last weekend. I did. I especially liked the TobyMac concert!!! It would be awesome if people put comments up about things like YC (Hint! Hint!). Anyhow, this Friday something is happening that I am not entirely sure of; but it will definitely be good! It may have something to do with money.

By the way, I was looking on this website that listed different Christian bands and such. Among them I found this band that I think is Christian too, and it's rock (so far so good :D), and it's French! They actually sing in French and English. Pretty talented! I listened to it on http://www.myspace.com/nannup because the band is called Nannup and that's a really funny name but it's actually a city or town in Western Australia.
But it may not be so good for you people that don't know French because then it'll be like gsdgjksdlghsdkjg...and you'll be like what?

I shouldn't have to remind anyone of this one!!! Hopefully you received a sheet from Michelle about the time we will leave the church and other important info. If not, I will summarize it for you here:

We leave the church 30 minutes before each day starts and we arrive back at the church 45 minutes after it ends.
You have to buy your own food there or bring food from home. You can bring a bag that is put in a bag check area. You have to be responsible for your own money, and Pastor Brad won't give you any! Bring about $20/day for food if you are buying it there.

By the way, did you ever imagine what would happen if you had a huge bouquet of helium-filled balloons and they started to pull you up, up, up... I started thinking about balloons because of surprises and surprise birthday parties but apparently there is such a concept. It's called cluster ballooning. You wear a harness and have large, helium-filled balloons strapped to you. You release a ballast to go up and to go down again you just simply pop some of the balloons.
One of the funniest balloon flights was in 1982. Larry Walters strapped 42 helium weather balloons to his lawnchair because he thought it might lift his lawnchair a bit. Instead, he went up 16 000 feet! He actually survived this and now balloonists have even flown higher!

Do you like water slides? Do you enjoy swimming and hanging at the pool with your friends? Or do you just want a refreshing way to spend your Friday night? This week we will be going on a trip to the Spruce Grove Leisure Centre! There is a water slide and a large swimming pool. You must be at the church at 7:00PM and we will be back at the church by 10:30PM (or possibly earlier depending on when we leave since the pool closes at 10PM). The cost is $7.00. So remember to bring your money, bathing suit/swim trunks, towel, and a friend!

This Friday we will be going to West Edmonton Mall to do some exciting activities and have fun!!! Start off Spring Break with an adventure in the mall and with all your friends from the 13th Floor!
Also remember, we will be back at church at 10:30 PM so that we have more time to do more fun and crazy things!
Did you know that West Edmonton Mall will be the major location for the making of the movie "Christmas in Wonderland"? That's why they haven't taken the Christmas decorations down yet! It will be released in November and they will need extras for the movie. So if you are naturally dramatic and think you have what it takes, you might see yourself on the big screen!

We will be doing all kinds of things regarding the color green since Saturday is St. Patrick's Day. By the way do you actually know who St. Patrick was?

Have you ever been to Rome? Do you ever wonder what life was like back then? It may seem that this book has nothing important to say, but in fact you're wrong! Paul wrote this to the Romans and it really has some strong (but sometimes hard to admit) info in it. First, EVERY single human being is imperfect. (Romans 3:23) Except for Jesus of course. But he was both God and human.
There's some good news too, and that's that nothing can separate us from God's love. (Romans 8:38-39) Pretty cool, hey? Also, for the people that love God, he will make everything work out for the good in our lives. (Romans 8:28) Those people in Rome might be more interesting than you thought after you hear about them this Friday!

This is a concert with special guest Adam Buyer. A dj from SHINE FM will be the MC for the night. The door prize is an Epiphone guitar from Long Mcquade, and there will be free food at intermission. As well, this will be a Nehemiah Construction Ministries benefit concert. (If you didn't already know, Nehemiah Construction Ministries is an organization that helps build homes and water wells for widows and orphans in Kenya. If you want to donate you can at the concert.) Who: All teens welcome!
What: Sledding!
Where: At Connor's Hill near the Muttart Conservatory (the pyramids)
When: 7:00 PM-10:00 PM (We leave at 7:00 and are back at the church by 10:00)
Why: To enjoy the frosty winter weather, have some fun, and hang out with your friends
How: Pastor Brad will transport the sleds to the hill with the van. But we need drivers! Please ask your parents if they would be willing to drive kids to the hill. Contact Pastor Brad if you want to be a driver or if you need more directions.
Bring: A sled, and warm clothes. Dress for the weather because it might be very cold!
By the way, have you ever gone sand tobogganing? Apparently they do it in Australia!

Two weeks ago Pastor Brad talked about the "rocks" in our lives. These are the obstacles that we need to get rid of. For me, my "rock" is procrastination. I have problems with it all the time. They should really have a Procrastinators' Anonymous! But the thing is nobody would show up because they would keep postponing it!!! Today I was just listening to my music and one song really grabbed my attention. It went like this:

"I get so tired of procrastinating/ I need a change/ I can't do this/ I can't do this/ I can't do this by myself/ I can't do this/ I can't do this/ Oh God, I need your help."

You guessed it! That was "Plumb" with the song "I Can't Do This". It made me realize that we all have different "rocks" and we can't conquer them alone; we need God's help. It doesn't matter what you're going through, but we all need A NEW START, which is the topic for this Friday!

ok dso tubing was so much fun. it was way better than last year. the water was warm and the river was slow.( that means on one got swept away.) alanna's air matress kept flipping over ( that was really strange) sylvan went fishing with his bare hands. gabby could not stay on her tub. in all it was a great time.
